True Tales of San Francisco

There’s something about the charm of San Francisco. Walk down the streets at night, pass foodie restaurants, wine bars and beautiful neon lights. The city has a calm, restful way. There’s an ease and a certain “joie de vivre” in the air.
In my time at Cal, I haven’t had much time to explore San Francisco. Last semester I worked on a special travel issue (“There’s No Place Like Home”) for the Daily Cal about the playground right next door to Berkeley. My co-editor and I planned out three destination-based trips to the city for our readers to explore. It’s the unexplored nooks and crannies that make San Francisco. For a fun night in the city, consider checking out the Castro.
A few months back, my friend and I hopped in her car and explored the city. Our end destination was the Castro Theatre at 429 Castro Street for a film noir festival. The shows began with a little organ playing and an introduction by the MC for the night. Step outside and see the charms of the district. Check out the t-shirts sold in the Castro: “I ♥ Happy Endings” or get a sweet treat at Hot Cookie, also on Castro Street.
San Francisco may not have the manic energy of New York City, but the city’s charm is irresistible. And when it comes time to decide where I’ll go after I graduate, the memories of San Francisco tales are going to be hard to forget.
The time is coming to decide what I’ll do next year, after I graduate from Cal and have to move on with my life. The feeling isn’t terrifying, but exhilarating. Yes, finding a job that pays enough to support myself and having health insurance are priorities, but place feeds the soul. And there’s something about San Francisco that feeds the soul.
