By the time yesterday evening had rolled around, my feet were heavy from walking. I had spent ten hours roaming around campus snapping shots while a crowd of UC Berkeley students protested the proposed 32% tuition increase. Friday was the final day of a three day protest against free hikes and budget cuts. Meanwhile the UC Regents meeting on the UCLA campus was met by student protests.

I have never stopped to looked at South Hall on the UC Berkeley campus in the late afternoon light. The spectacularly blue skies and golden light of an autumn California day is arresting—and makes you stop and look at the corners of buildings. Campus tour guides hint to perspective Cal students that the red brick building—one of the first campus halls—was modeled after Mary Poppins’ patrons’ home. Not so. Doesn’t ruin the building’s magic, especially at golden hour.

A few weeks ago I photographed the Treasure Island Music Festival. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros played early in the afternoon of the second day and got the crowd still stiff from dancing the day before up off their butts. The ensemble band oozed fun with an energetic, shirts-off performance. What better place to play hookie (while working) than Treasure Island. I felt like a pirate.
After several weeks of forgetting to look up their music, I heard one of their songs entitled “Home” yesterday. It transported me right back to Treasure Island. Check it out:

To every season there is a playlist. This fall a few songs have resonated especially well with me. From rocking music festivals to car commercials, these songs have been the soundtrack to the last few months — and my second-to-last semester in college. Tear.
The Fall 2009 Playlist:
Want the sparkling shiny feeling you get from head to toe when you hear a great new playlist? If this seems like your cup of tea, check out the playlist from start to finish.
