The Cal Bears have a great track record in rugby. For the best two plus decades the Bears have been nearly unbeatable. Today was no different. The final score of the game was 99-0. Phew!
It’s early evening in San Francisco and diligent workers are just leaving their offices and flooding out onto the rain-soaked streets. I just got off work myself and headed north to Market Street to catch the BART home. This weekend will provide a much-needed break. Tomorrow morning I’m headed down to the farmers’ market for a couple late-in-the-season persimmons and a bunch or red chard.
Just a note about yesterday’s post: The over-edited image is proof that you need a calibrated monitor when you’re looking at images. You shouldn’t even bother if you suspect the monitor’s off.
I get the not-so-cute joke in the title of P.J. O’Rourke’s little book Peace Kills. It didn’t take long to get O’Rourke’s point. He made some astute observations about wartime culture and the absurdity of conflict, but nothing warranting so many pages of sarcasm and poorly-executed jokes. Some of his rants are funny, but more often than not O’Rourke ends up beating a dead horse. (more…)
Alexis Gray-Lawson led the Bears in a 73-53 victory against the University of Arizona at Haas Pavilion this evening. And 60 Minutes was there too! Odd. (more…)
It’s common sense that more information usually begets better decisions. In the ongoing battle to reduce energy consumption in the United States—and particularly California—the energy company PG&E is beginning to install SmartMeters on homes and properties. The decision is based on the assumption that consumers, when armed with their energy-using statistics will make smarter, more efficient choices in their households.
My college paper the Daily Cal is running a feature piece tomorrow on Cal men’s swimmer Sean Mahoney. Our beat writer for men’s swimming, Christina Jones, penned the piece. I took the accompanying portrait earlier this week at Spieker Pool on campus.
This afternoon was my first time shooting tennis this academic year. I’m always struck by the images Getty photographers take at tennis matches. They play with negative space and harsh shadows. The diffuse post-rain light wasn’t ideal for shadows, so negative space it was.
After the buzz of the workday has passed, a few dedicated staffers remain in a newspaper office eyes glued to their monitors reading copy.
The Cal women’s water polo team started off their season at Spieker Pool in an exhibition game against a team from Canada. The bright, warm mornings of the men’s water polo season are a thing of the past. This Sunday morning rain gently fell on the few spectators.
