
Last weekend I had a big cooking marathon. This weekend was all about baking. I made two loaves of no-knead bread (written up by the New York Times’ minimalist Mark Bittman)—one whole wheat, one “regular” (i.e. all-purpose flour). After letting them rise overnight and doing the last stages of prep today, I popped them in the oven. Ta-dah! Bread.

The Cal women’s basketball team played UCLA at Haas Pavilion this afternoon. It was an ugly loss for the Bears. By half-time the score was 8-14. Ouch.

The women’s basketball teams from Cal and USC have a long-time rivalry. The past few competitions have come down to the last few seconds. But by the time the final buzzer sounded the Bears had a healthy six-point lead.

I covered Head Coach Jeff Tedford’s announcement of the 2010 recruiting class for football. The journalists who attended watched videos of the new recruits and Coach Tedford said this was the best class yet.

During my break from classes I took a long walk through downtown Berkeley, made a brief stop at the post office and stopped over at the Cal tennis courts to watch the end of a match. What a luxurious afternoon.
